Healthy Fontana is a lifestyle health program created to inform, educate, and change the way people eat, exercise, and live. Healthy Fontana encourages residents to make choices that will lead to a healthier lifestyle.

The program officially kicked off in January 2004.

4. How can I get involved with the program?

You can participate in our healthy cooking classes on the first or third Saturday of each month. Also, you can join one of the local walking clubs in your area or walk on your own and log your steps on the "Contact Us" section of the website. Finally, you can view our events calendar to see a list of upcoming programs and events.

5. How can local businesses get involved?

Healthy Fontana is seeking support from companies in the local area. Lewis Operating Companies and Young Homes have committed to assisting all program efforts whenever possible.

6. How are Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center and San Antonio Community Hospital part of the program?

Kaiser and San Antonio are a large part of the Healthy Fontana program. They will assist our efforts with outreach to the public as well as with possible direct support in the facilitation of health screenings, health and diet information, lecture series, and more.

Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center has also awarded Healthy Fontana with various grants. Through their support and funding, Healthy Fontana has been able to offer residents numerous outreach and education opportunities including:

• FUSD Elementary School Childhood Obesity Education program (starting in early 2010)
• Jr. Chef Cooking Class

7. What motivated Fontana City Councilwoman Acquanetta Warren to start the Healthy Fontana program?

Acquanetta thought about developing the program shortly after she joined the City Council in December 2003. Alarmed with the growing rates of diabetes, obesity, and heart disease in Fontana and concerned with her own diet and lifestyle, Acquanetta decided to make a change and get the residents of Fontana involved as well.
