Information
Overview
The
City of Fontana has embarked on a major program to enhance
the quality and safety of life within the City and surrounding
area. The Capital Improvements Program (CIP) is an ambitious
seven- to-ten-year capital improvements program that addresses
high-priority improvements, as designated by the Fontana
City Council.
Recognizing that the existing transportation and utility
infrastructure has not kept up with development projects
in the City or with the overall population explosion in
the Inland Empire in general (which translates into traffic
congestion), the City has commenced a major capital improvements
program. These improvements include the design/construction/improvement/reconstruction
of storm drain facilities, sewers, arterial roadways, freeway
interchanges/crossings, freeway grade separations, railroad
grade separations, and similar works with public improvement
projects.
The program includes projects that will require the services
of design consultants and numerous contractors, and external
coordination with a number of agencies. The City has several
Program Managers to oversee design, development and implementation
of these capital improvement projects.
The
CIP will:
|
- Provide
a balanced transportation system that meets the needs of
current and future residents and ensure the safe and efficient
movement of vehicles, people, and goods throughout the City.
- Provide
a regional network of transportation facilitates that ensure
the safe and efficient movement of vehicles, people and
goods throughout the City.
- Ensure
the timely, logical and cost-effective development of infrastructure
facilities while minimizing impacts to the community.
The
City of Fontana has developed a long-term vision statement
to guide the development, growth, and future of Fontana.
The vision statement, which was adopted on February 7,
2006,
states,
"Fontana is a dynamic, thriving community that supports
education, growth, safety and a positive community fabric.
Our community is creating the opportunities that encourage
social and economic investment.
". As such, the CIP will
be performed in a manner that will meet the goals and objectives
identified in the vision statement.
