Fontana Park – One Year Later

One of the priorities of the City Council has been the continued expansion and enhancement of recreational amenities in the City of Fontana. As a result, in October 2008, the City held the grand opening of Fontana Park and welcomed over 30,000 visitors to this special event.

Over the past year, residents have experienced over 38 acres of fun, recreational activities at Fontana Park. Located at 15556 Summit Avenue (Summit Avenue and Lytle Creek Road), near Interstate 15 and the 210 Freeway, Fontana Park offers a wide range of amenities including a:

Fontana Park
  • 43,000 square foot Jessie Turner Health and Fitness Center
  • Full size indoor gymnasium
  • Dedicated aerobics room
  • 14-lane competition swimming pool
  • Recreational swimming pool and two waterslides
  • 25,000 square foot Skate and BMX park
  • Passive park with a creative play area
  • Dog park
  • Set of walking trails
  • Covered pavilion that can seat 350 people
  • 300-seat banquet room with stage

As Mayor Mark Nuaimi said,“we had several grand openings in 2008 and Fontana Park was one that was near and dear to my heart. Our dedicated staff worked side by side with City leadership and City Council to complete this one-of-a-kind park so that our residents would have a park like no other in the Inland Empire in their community.”

Michele Rosas, manager of the Seahorses, a competitive swim team, is also excited about the improvements made to Fontana Park. The Seahorses meet at the Aquatics Center on a weekly basis to practice for swim meets and maintain their active lifestyles.

“We are so happy to have this Aquatics Center in Fontana so our children can have a place close to home to practice and be proud of,” said Rosas.

The members of the Fontana Aquatics team use to travel long distances outside of the City to compete. “This new Aquatics facility provides an opportunity not only for our young athletes to grow competitively, but to also showcase their talent in their home town,” said Rosas.

The City of Fontana is now a co-sponsor of the Fontana Seahorses team and is proud to be hosting the first US Sanctioned swim-meet in November. This is the first meet at the new facility and one swimmer on the team said that “this meet will help put Fontana on the map in the competitive world of swimming.”

This event will host over 500 swimmers from 15 teams which are made up of children ages 4 to 18. The attendance at this event is anticipated to be in the thousands.

The meet is scheduled to begin on Friday November 13 and runs through Sunday November 15. For more information on this meet, contact Michelle Rosas at (909) 851-1865 or visit www.fontanaaquatics.org.

Mallory King, community services coordinator at the Jessie Turner Community Center at Fontana Park, confirms that the Park enhancements are really benefiting the community. “Approximately 140 special events have been held at the Jessie Turner Health and Fitness Center so far,” said King. “I truly enjoy working with our residents in booking their wedding receptions, classes or special events.”

“Fontana Park is the largest in the City of Fontana and the Inland Empire,” said Chuck Hays, public works director for the City. “This park has become another jewel for Fontana and I am proud to say I played a small part in its creation and continued success one year later.”
