Water Rate Increase
2006 Update
Fontana Water Rate Hearings:
The current Fontana Water Rate proceedings are now drawing to a close. The City of Fontana, Fontana Unified School District, Division of Rate Payer Advocates (DRA) State of California, and the San Gabriel Valley Water Company – Fontana Division has submitted all the closing briefs to the Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) Barnett. It is anticipated that the ALJ Barnett will render a decision regarding both General Rate Cases the SGVWC-Fontana Division has filed during the last year, 2005, and the limited re-hearing of the previous case filed in 2002. The ALJ will submit his recommended decision to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) for review and consideration. It is anticipated that a ruling by the CPUC will be given in the June/July 2006 time frame. The City of Fontana has requested to provide oral argument before the Commission rules on this matter. The City of Fontana is encouraged that ALJ Barnett and the CPUC will recognize the issues and errors with the proposed Fontana Water Company requested rate increase and deny those unnecessary and unwarranted increases and provide recommendations to provide for fair water rates in this community. The City of Fontana is working diligently to reduce and control water rates to protect the Consumers interest.
However, it is important that you also contact your State and County representation to advise them of your concerns regarding water rates in this community. Please note that the average Fontana Water Company bill is roughly 45% higher than the surrounding water service providers in the Inland Empire. The proposed rate increase by the Fontana Water Company would further increase that gap.
