PRESS RELEASE

Extended season at Fontana Pools

Release Date: October 2, 2008

Fontana, California, September 22, 2008. The Mayor and City Council invite the public to enjoy recreational swimming or free Operation Splash swim lessons at Miller Pool, located at 17004 Arrow Boulevard or Don Day Pool, located at 14501 Live Oak Avenue through October 25 when the new Fontana Aquatic Center officially opens in Fontana Park, located at Summit Avenue and Lytle Creek.

As a reminder of the recreational amenities at the Fontana Aquatic Center, the Aquatic program is offering citizens an opportunity to enjoy swimming at Miller Pool and Don Day Pool on Saturdays and Sundays through October 19 from 12 to 4:40 pm. Entrance fees are $1.50 for children and $3 for adults. Additionally, swim lessons for all levels will continue during the extended swim period. Sessions are available from now through October 17. Classes are held Monday through Friday at varying times from 4:30 to 6:45 pm. Lessons are $40 per resident or $50 per non-resident. All residents are invited to apply for the Operation Splash program.

On June 13, Kaiser Permanente launched Operation Splash in Fontana. The program has committed a total of $1.5 million to cities and non-profit agencies throughout the region in support of aquatic facilities and swim programs.

Operation Splash has been developed as a part of Kaiser Permanente’s Community Benefit Program and Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) program www.kaiserpermanente.org.

Operation Splash was developed as a part of Kaiser Permanente’s focus on reducing obesity in the communities by increasing opportunities for safe physical activity,” says Jennifer Resch-Silverstri, Director of Public Affairs for Kaiser Permanente in Fontana and Ontario.

With a sizable donation from Kaiser Permanente for $50,000, and through a partnership with Healthy Fontana, the Fontana Aquatics program provides pre-selected children and their families, as well as seniors, with free registrations for a series of ten lessons that take place over a two week period at three local City pools.

“Fontana and Kaiser Permanente have a long history of mutual support. As a growing family-oriented community, Fontana was a good fit for our Operation Splash program,” adds Resch-Silvestri,

An additional program will be featured at the Fontana Aquatic Center when it opens October 25. The Fontana Aquatic Center is accepting applications for lifeguards and lifeguard instructors.
