PRESS RELEASE
Fontana
volunteers needed for large park cleanup
Release Date: May 5, 2008
Fontana,
California, May 2, 2008. The Mayor and City Council invite residents to volunteer at the upcoming monthly
park cleanup on Saturday, May 10 from 8 am to noon at Jurupa Park located at 11660 Sierra Avenue. Lunch, water,
and snacks are provided.
One year ago the Jurupa Park cleanup had a record-breaking 200 volunteers at the event. While a little over 100
volunteers are at the monthly park cleanup events, organizers are hoping to have a large turnout in May. Given
the overall size of the park, more volunteers are needed to help with raking, litter removal, and more. Thankfully,
returning service groups and clubs find volunteering in Fontana to be both rewarding and a great way to spend
time outdoors.
“We have a little over 100 students in the Health Services Academy at A.B. Miller High School,” says Health Services
Academy coordinator Ami Sandler adding, “each month I usually have 25 to 30 who volunteer to help with the cleanups.
Many bring family and friends and I know they enjoy it because I see them laughing, smiling, and generally having
fun. They return because they know they are going to help make the community a little cleaner than before they
arrive at the site and that makes them feel involved in the community.”
