PRESS RELEASE
Comedienne
Paula Poundstone Sets the Stage for the New Steelworkers' Auditorium
Release Date: April 3, 2008
Fontana,
California, April 3, 2008. The Mayor and City Council invite residents from throughout the Inland Empire
to the first show at the all new Steelworkers' Auditorium located within the Lewis Library and Technology Center
at 8437 Sierra Avenue. The first evening performance to grace the Auditorium stage, brought to you by the San
Bernardino County Library, will be a family friendly show from national standup comic, Paula Poundstone, on Thursday,
April 24 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $20.00.
The Steelworkers' Auditorium is a 330 seat facility named after one of the city's first large-scale employers,
Kaiser Steel. Kaiser Steel Mill opened in 1943 and immediately provided thousands of jobs for residents. The
Auditorium was named by $1 million donor Young Homes in honor of those who worked in the mill and whose ancestors
continue to contribute to the community.
The Auditorium venue will host meetings, lectures, and special presentations. Housed within the $60.5 million
Lewis Library and Technology Center, the Auditorium will become a popular location for standup comics, formal
musicians, theater groups, and the lecture circuit. The kick-off event featuring Poundstone is a great first
step for the city and the San Bernardino County Library.
The term "first" is often used when describing Poundstone. The first woman to ever receive a standup comedy special
on HBO, or to perform at a White House Correspondents dinner, she is recognized far and wide in both performance
and voice as she is also the voice behind radio shows and cartoons. The comedienne and writer has recently released
her first book, There's Nothing in this Book that I Meant to Say. The designation as the first performer
at the new auditorium is both fitting and a sign of good things to come.
Opting for a less traditional book tour, the author who is the national spokesperson for Friends of Libraries, USA,
tours the country giving standup specials in venues like Steelworkers' Auditorium and selling and signing books
following the event. All proceeds will be given to the new regional Lewis Library and Technology Center.
