PRESS RELEASE
11th
ACR Horse Detachment to visit Fontana May 3
Release Date: May 1, 2008
Fontana,
California, April 28, 2008. The Mayor and City Council proudly announce the special visit from members
of the Horse Detachment of the 11th Armored Calvary Regiment based out of Fort Irwin on Saturday, May 3 at 1:00
p.m. in support of the Vietnam Memorial Moving Wall display which will be on 24-hour display in the downtown
civic center campus at Miller Park, 17004 Arrow Boulevard from Thursday, May 1 through Monday, May 5. The dedication
ceremony on May 3 will include Kaiser High School Jr. ROTC, a special guest speaker, bagpipes, and members of
the 11th Armored Calvary Regiment.
The Horse Detachment of the 11th Armored Calvary Regiment based out of Ft. Irwin is a traditional guard who when
on parade are often recognized by their uniforms modeled after those worn in 1901.
The Fontana Area Chamber of Commerce recently completed the initial hanging of 18 military banners dedicated
to local military heroes. Having the Vietnam Memorial Moving Wall come to the town is yet another example of
how the city remembers its soldiers and veterans.
“Our nation and the freedoms we enjoy have been bought with the blood of our finest men and women. It is important
that we remember the sacrifice that is required and the Vietnam Memorial Moving Wall is one way to demonstrate
the sacrifice that tens of thousands of American families had to make,” says Mayor Mark Nuaimi adding, “especially
at a time when America once again finds itself on the front lines of freedom’s cause.”
