Heritage offers incredible martial arts programs

Fontana, California, October 1, 2008. The Mayor and City Council invite the public to register for some of the innovative martial arts classes being offered at the Heritage neighborhood center, located at 7350 W. Liberty Parkway. These unique sessions provide an opportunity to be involved with calming movements like Tai Chi, traditional moves found in as Olympic-Style Judo, body sculpting exercises or a free-for-all fun class in music and exercise with Zumba. Age and gender specific self-defense class series are also available.

  • Tai Chi as a Way of Regimen for ages 16 and older on Friday and Saturdays begins October 24 and is $50 for 4 weeks on Friday and Saturday mornings beginning at 8:15 am. The class is a wonderful introduction to this peaceful exercise that focuses on movement and concentration while improving muscle tone and fitness levels.

  • Olympic-Style Judo for ages 6 and older is offered on Thursday evenings beginning October 23 at 7 pm for $15 for 4 weeks. Students will be introduced to Judo as a self-defense and as a sport. There are no martial arts cross-overs in this class which is based entirely upon the traditional form and used in Olympic competitions. Students will have opportunities to participate in club competitions and social events.

  • Why pay for a personal trainer? Body Sculpting for adults is $15 for 4 weeks and meets for one hour every Tuesday beginning at 7:45 pm on October 21. The class introduces body toning exercises with the intent to build muscle, strengthen bones, and burn calories.

  • All fitness levels and ages are invited to join Family Zumba, Zumba or Zumba Kids. Anyone with a love for fun music with a touch of Latin or international influences will enjoy the fun cardio and muscle toning exercises of Zumba. Family Zumba for families with children ages 6 and older is available for $40 for the first family member and $30 per additional member (up to 3) at Fontana Middle School located at 8425 Mango Avenue on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. Zumba is available for $40 for 4 weeks on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning at 7:15 pm on October 20. Zumba Kids is $20 for 4 weeks on Tuesdays beginning at 4:15 pm on October 21.

  • Winning Edge Child Awareness Rapid Escape (W.E.C.A.R.E.), Fight Like a Girl (F.L.A.G.), and Girls on Guard (G.O.G.) offer children an effective and empowering tool to escape predatory situations while bringing a sense of security to parents looking to provide their loved ones with independence and security. All classes are $30 for 4 weeks and begin Saturday, October 25. W.E.C.A.R.E. at 10 am introduces children ages 6 to 12 to awareness techniques, danger avoidance and physical skills that help to protect themselves. F.LA.G. at 11:15 am for girls ages 13 and older offers realistic role playing for young women to learn to fight off an attacker. G.O.G. at 12:30 pm for girls ages 13 and older covers date rape scenarios and tactics to defend against an attack in secluded areas.
