The Smart Kids After School program is available to elementary and middle school students in three different
school districts and has in excess of 2,000 students enrolled in the current school year. The educational enrichment
program offers youth an opportunity to enrich their minds and lives through Project Learn, computer labs, health
and wellness, activity enrichment programs and a Healthy Snack program. While focus on scholastic and nutritional
well being is often highlighted, youth are also given unique social opportunities.
In October, 2007 a small group of students enjoyed fishing in the ocean with Friends of Rollo . The
event marked the first time children had ever fished, and for some, it was the first visit to the ocean. In December,
the Jack Bulik Teen Center provided a space for which all of the students were presented with Christmas presents
from the teachers at Truman Middle School. In February, all Fontana teens were invited to a day filled with career
seminars, college preparation information, and job interviews with the first of a series of Teen Fest events
which together with Smart Kids are providing opportunities for youth to learn life skills.
The public is invited to the Memorial Day Commemoration on Friday, May 30. A listing of items that will be accepted
for donation is available through the Jack Bulik Teen Center by calling (909) 428-8393.
