PRESS RELEASE
Artists
in Nature takes Discovery Camps to a new level
Release Date: April 28, 2008
Fontana,
California, April 27, 2008. The Mayor and City Council invite residents with youth ages 7-12 to register
for the all new Artists in Nature summer camp program which begins Monday, July 7 at the Mary Vagle
Nature Center, 11501 Cypress Avenue. Sessions are from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and are $50 per participant per week.
The new Artists in Nature series offers summer students an opportunity to develop an appreciation
for both the outdoors and art through an entirely new approach to last summer’s sold out camps.
“The series is about discovery of the natural world and the self. Students will have an opportunity for some
natural exploration, and hopefully through the artistic expression piece, they will find new talents and interests,” says
Rick Dean community services coordinator of the Mary Vagle Nature Center.
As in summers’ past, students will continue to enjoy the nature hikes, live animals, and environmentally focused
aspects that have been the cornerstones to Discovery Camps. In addition, participants will be introduced to a
variety of art techniques and projects that will help them to focus on the natural wonders surrounding them in
even more minute detail.
Field trips will be offered at each camp session but this year, the tours will alternate between nature trips
and artistic excursions. Students, for example, will enjoy days exploring nature on “nature field trips” and
other days at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and other areas.
For more information or to register for the Artists in Nature series, please call the Mary Vagle Nature Center
at (909) 428-8386. Students are advised to register early, summer camps at Mary Vagle usually have waiting lists.
