PRESS RELEASE
Fontana Community Clean Up Day October 24
The Mayor and City Council invite the public to join in the semi-annual Community Clean-Up and Recycling Day on Saturday, October 24, from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm at the West Valley Material Recycling Facility (MRF) located at 13373 Napa Street near the Auto Club Speedway. No business or commercial waste accepted. Unacceptable waste includes concrete, rocks, and rubble. Items that will be permitted include refuse, appliances, sofas, mattresses, televisions, computer monitors, green waste, passenger and light truck tires (limit 4), E-waste, and Household Hazardous Waste (HHW). Participants must bring their Burrtec refuse bill.
Residents are encouraged to contact local thrift stores to see if they will accept donations for reusable items before bringing them to the cleanup. The public is advised to plan ahead and group waste items such as metal, appliances, TV’s, monitors, tires, and HHW. Drivers will be asked to stop their vehicles at different stations to off-load waste.
The City of Fontana is dedicated to encouraging residents to think and act in a way that will improve the environment for the future. Some of the key aspects to programming include monthly graffiti and park cleanups, free curbside used oil and filter collection, and free disposal of HHW on Saturdays. The City also rewards non-profit youth groups for recycling projects, and is a national leader in the annual Cans for Cash recycling contest from the U.S. Council of Mayors. The Community Clean Up and Recycling event is another resource that helps bring citizens together in an effort to improve the environment by safely keeping hazardous items out of the landfill.
