PRESS RELEASE
Mary Vagle Nature Center Celebrates
Local National Public Lands Day
The Mayor and City Council invite the public to celebrate the value of our local natural areas with a National Public Lands Day event to be held at the Mary Vagle Nature Center, 11501 Cypress Avenue on September 26 from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm.
This year’s event is divided into two sessions. From 9:00 am until 12:00 pm students and community groups are installing water-wise California native plant gardens at the center. From 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm the center is hosting an environment fair with educational activities, hikes and live animal demonstrations. Representatives from local agencies will be on hand to discuss a variety of issues including water-wise gardening, composting and recreational opportunities in our local public lands. National Public Lands Day is the “nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands.” This year’s event is being jointly sponsored by the Inland Empire Resource Conservation District and the City of Fontana.
To find out more about this event or to volunteer for the morning session, please call the Mary Vagle Nature Center at (909) 428-8386. To learn more about National Public Lands Day, visit http://www.publiclandsday.org/.
